Intelligent UI in Your AI Chats
Intelligent UI is a capability introduced with GPT-6 in ChatGPT. It allows the assistant to choose among text, visuals, and interactive elements when forming a response, rather than presenting every answer in the same conversational format.
With Intelligent UI, a response may include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts, or other interactive experiences. The format depends on the question. OpenAI describes several ways this approach can support everyday questions and learning. A plan can combine instructions with related visual information, such as a schedule or a map. Interactive explanations can let people change an input, see how a result changes, or work through a problem step by step. Users can also ask ChatGPT to create a tool for a particular task, including a calculator, a bill splitter, or a game that works inside the conversation.
The system behind this feature combines a library of native, streamable components with a compiler that processes the interface as GPT-6 generates it. The component library provides a consistent design foundation, while the model determines how the available elements should be organized. Because the interface can be compiled progressively, parts of it can appear while the response is still being generated rather than waiting for the entire response to finish.
OpenAI says GPT-6 was trained to make decisions about content, layout, visuals, and interaction. Its training included evaluations of the interfaces it created for clarity, usefulness, and completeness. The model was also trained to decide when interactivity adds value and when a simple response is sufficient. Intelligent UI is rolling out in ChatGPT’s Chat tab. The initial rollout covers Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise tiers, followed by Free and Go tiers, with Enterprise access subject to workplace administrator settings. The update applies to the Chat experience; the models powering Work and Codex are not changed by this release.
