The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the telecommunications industry is progressing at an impressive pace. A recent survey by NVIDIA of more than 450 professionals worldwide shows that AI not only serves as a tool to increase revenue and reduce costs, but also plays a significant role in optimizing customer experiences and increasing employee productivity.

The survey results illustrate the positive impact of AI on business results:

  • Increased revenue: 84% of respondents said that AI drives their company's annual revenue growth.
  • Cost reduction: 77% reported that the use of AI leads to a reduction in annual operating costs.
  • Productivity: 60% of respondents said that increased productivity is the biggest benefit of AI.

These figures underline how critical AI has become to the financial performance of telecommunications companies. Also, the implementation of AI in RAN also enables more dynamic and efficient network management, positively impacting both quality of service and operational costs.

One notable trend is the integration of generative AI:

  • Deployment and planning: Over half of companies using generative AI have already implemented their first use cases; another third plan to do so this year.
  • Offering AI solutions: 84% of respondents intend to offer generative AI solutions externally to customers, with 52% planning to do so as software-as-a-service and 35% as a platform for developers.

This development shows that generative AI is not only being used internally for process optimization, but is also gaining in importance as an independent product offering.

All in all, the telecommunications industry, but also other industries, is on the threshold of a new era in which AI not only transforms operational processes, but also enables new business models and services. Companies that proactively invest in AI and exploit its potential will position themselves as pioneers in this dynamic environment.
